Mr Anthony (Tony) W Howland-Rose
Chairman
Tony has 48 years experience in exploration, discovery, development and corporate activity worldwide in the junior exploration sector.
From 1962 to 1965 he served as Exploration Geophysist with the Commonwealth Bureau of Mineral Resources (now Geoscience Australia). From 1966 to 1992 he was with the worldwide geophysical consulting, contracting and instrument manufacturing company, Scintrex Limited based in Toronto, Canada.
He has been involved in a number of mineral discoveries, the most recent of which was the Avebury Nickel Project for which he was co-recipient of the Association of Mining & Exploration Companies Prospector of the Year Award in 2007. Tony, for the years 1996 to 2008 as a Director and Chairman of Allegiance Mining NL, together with David Deitz, presided over the discovery, drill out, financing and building of the $180 million Avebury Mine and processing facility. Allegiance Mining NL was acquired by a hostile takeover by Zinifex Limited in 2008 for approximately $860 million.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree (2.1) in Geology from the Queens University of Belfast, Ireland (1962); Master of Science in Applied Geophysics from London University (1966) and a Diploma of Imperial College (London) in Geophysics (1966).
Tony is presently the Executive Chairman of Gullewa Limited.
Mr Colin Randall
Executive Managing Director
Colin Randall is a mining engineer with over 40 years experience in most facets of the coal mining industries of New South Wales and Queensland. He has been involved in the operating, exploring, developing and financing of coal mines in both states.
His initial management experience was gained in the underground coal mines operated by Coal and Allied in the Newcastle and Cessnock coal fields. In open cut coal mining in the Hunter Valley he was involved in the management of the Ravensworth No. 2, Warkworth and Bayswater open cut coal mines.
As General Manager he managed Bayswater Colliery Company and was Chief Executive of Wambo Mining Corporation, at which time he undertook the marketing of coal into Japan and other parts of Asia.
He was in the past a Director of Mount Thorley Coal Loader and also Newcastle Coal Shippers. In mine development, he was the Project Manager for the exploration, planning, design and construction of the Warkworth Mine and was its first Mine Manager. He was a Director of Baralaba Coal that reopened the Baralaba open cut mine in Queensland.
Involvement in coal exploration includes Chairman of Curlewis Coal & Coke, Booyan Coal, Comet Coal & Coke and then Director of Hydromining Coal Australia and MCI, with coal exploration activities in NSW and Queensland.
His involvement in the financing of new successful coal projects includes being appointed by financiers as Independent Techinal Expert for the South Bulga Underground, Bulga open cut dragline, Bulga coal preparation plant expansion, Stratford Coal Mine, New Acland coal preparation plant, Coppabella Mine, Moorvale Mine, Wambo North longwall and the Isaac Plains Mine.
Colin is an honours graduate, Bachelor Of Engineering in Mining Engineering, from the University of NSW in 1970. He was awarded a First Class Coal Mine Managers Certificate in NSW in 1973 and has for the past 20 years tutored candidates for the NSW open cut and underground mine managers certificate. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, Chartered Professional (Mining), Member of the Mineral Industry Consultants Association and Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, and a past member of the Australian Coal Preparation Society.
As Managing Editor he has, for the past 20 years, published the weekly Hunter Valley Coal Report.
Colin is a founding director of MCI.
Mr David Deitz
Non-Executive Director, Company Secretary
David Deitz joined Allegiance Mining NL in 1996 and became a Director in August, 2000.
As Chief Financial Officer he was part of the team with Tony Howland-Rose that discovered and brought into production the Avebury Nickel Mine in Tasmania. Allegiance Mining NL was taken over in April, 2008 for approximately $860 million.
David is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Gullewa Limited which has exploration interests in gold, copper, iron ore and coal covering Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales.
David is a Certified Practicing Accountant and a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Mr Peter Donkin
Non-Executive Director
Peter Donkin has 28 years experience in investment banking, the majority of which involved a primary focus on the mining and resources sector. He completed his career in investment banking as the Managing Director of the Mining Finance Division of Societe Generale in Australia, having worked for that bank for 21 years in both their Sydney and London offices. Prior to joining Societe Generale he was with the corporate and international banking division of the Royal Bank of Canada. He currently works as a financial consultant to the minerals sector.
Peter’s experience in investment banking involved structuring and executing transactions for mining companies, both in Australia and internationally. This included advising on and arranging transactions in a wide variety of financial products covering mining project finance, corporate finance, acquisition finance, pre-export finance, and early stage investment capital. Peter was also responsible for implementing and leading a successful principal equity fund providing early stage equity and quasi equity capital to smaller mining companies moving through the exploration and feasibility study stage of their mining projects.
Peter holds a Bachelor of Economics degree and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Sydney. He is a Director of Paladin Energy Ltd and was previously a Director of Sphere Minerals Ltd.
Mr Brian Lyne
Senior Site Executive (contractor)
With 17 years as the statutory Chief Inspector of Coal Mines in Queensland, Brian brings a wealth of experience in the safe operation of all types of activities related to coal mining and exploration.
As Site Senior Executive he has in conjunction with management, developed the company’s Health Safety and Environmental Management Scheme.
His wide experience in the evaluation of safe work procedures and his practical experience as manager of coal mines provides a sound footing for the safe and efficient exploration program planned by the Company.
Brian holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of New South Wales and 1st Class Certificate of Competency for underground coal mines in New South Wales and Queensland.
